Several of you still wear white golf gloves because you didn't know color golf gloves existed. Either that or you're just not quite sure about getting out of your comfort zone. Those that make the jump have found that the grass is much greener on the color side!
But still...where did the idea come from? Here's our story...
In the fall of 2011, I was on the course practicing for an upcoming tournament at the country club I was a member of. That particular day I was struggling to get off the tee. Actually that's an understatement...my tee shots were so bad...they would go about 50 yards and immediately take a dive to the right. My first thought was "this is great, right before the biggest outing of the year". I was hitting my other clubs well, just not the driver. As I teed off from hole number 6, the head of my club flew off the shaft. Luckily, my club was breaking which was causing the errant shots. However, I needed it fixed quick, so I went to a sporting goods store to see if they could help.
A week or so went by and my club was done, just in time to use it for the tournament. I went to the sporting goods store and while I waited at the counter for them to find my club I was staring at a wall of golf gloves. It was taking longer than expected to find my club, which allowed to to stare at this wall of gloves even longer. My eyes were drawn to the top right corner where the store had a black golf glove. I told my wife, "I've got to get that glove". Her response was the obvious, "why do you need another golf glove, you have 2 or 3 in your bag now". She was right, I did have a couple...but I didn't have a black glove.
She talked me out of getting that black golf glove, but the next day at work I started thinking about it again. I work as a Network Administrator and when the systems are all up and running, I have alot of time to kill. I was looking online at black golf gloves and was only finding winter golf gloves. Then it hit me, not only are there not many black golf gloves, why aren't there any other colors. Rickie Fowler had just splashed onto the golf scene, so color was in, but not in golf gloves. I found a couple companies that sold color golf gloves, but one was very expensive and the other was poor quality. I decided to come up with golf gloves that not only were colorful, but were also durable and affordable for everyone.
That night I went home and started working through some ideas. I was eager to get the gloves on the market and went with the first supplier I found. The gloves looked great but lacked the quality and durability...strike one. Several months later I tweaked the design with the manufacturer, but they still didn't hold up as well as I wanted...strike two. About a year and a half later, I decided to go back to the drawing board. I went with a different manufacturer and made a few minor design changes. We added a full cabretta leather palm, with a dual patch in the area that comes in contact with the end of the club grip. We battle tested the new gloves and couldn't be happier. These quality of these golf gloves is almost too good!
We now offer two models, a synthetic leather and a spandex. We continue to release new colors and designs each year to stay fresh. Last year we offered our camouflage golf glove. Larry the Cable Guy became our unofficial spokesman. We've yet to break into the PGA tour (that we know of), but have several celebrities and professional athletes that proudly wear Bender Gloves!
